The 25th Session of the Conference Parties (COP25) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) was convened from the 2nd to 13th December 2019 at IFEMA in the beautiful city of Madrid in Spain. The conference was dubbed an action COP and attracted nearly 27,000 participants from the government, Intergovernmental Agencies, research institutions, NGOs and Civil society organizations.

The conference provided Parties with the opportunity to advance negotiations with the hope of finalizing the “Rule Book” which is an operating manual of the Paris Agreement needed for its smooth implementation taking effect from 2020. Key items to be completed include guidance on Cooperative approaches referred to as Article 6 paragraph 4 of the Paris Agreement, Common times frames referred in article 4 paragraph 10 and the transparency framework under article 13.
