Accra Climate March
Greener Impact International joined hundreds of climate change activist across the continent to demand expedite action from world leaders to address climate change. This happened on the sidelines of the African Climate Week which was convened in Accra from the 18th to the 22nd March 2019. The IPCC special report on global warming of 1.5 degrees projects with high confidence an increased exposure of human population to the adverse effects of climate change and calls for urgent if urgent actions to protect the planet.
Amidst chanting and showcasing placards with climate change messages, the group marched through the principal streets of Accra and finally convened at the Accra International Conference where a petition was presented to the organizers of the conference. Other groups who participated in the March include the Pan African Climate Justice Alliance (PACJA), The African Youth Initiative on Climate Change, The Ghana Youth Environmental Movement (GYEM) and the Strategic Youth Network for Development (SYND).
The conference was convened in the lead up to the UN secretary General’s climate summit in September 2019 and attracted stakeholders from the government, private sector, Intergovernmental Organizations, NGOs and civil society organizations.
