Agriculture presents a great opportunity for youth employment and this will require the right investment and youth friendly agriculture policies to attract young people into this field.
In 2019 during the African Climate Week, Greener Impact International launched our flagship program “Rural Youth in Agriculture Initiative” with the aim empowering young people to take up agriculture as a viable career option. The initiative seeks to provide practical solution to the numerous challenges faced by young people in this sector. One important aspect of this project is to establish a climate smart agriculture model farm which will serve as a demonstration site not only for the youth beneficiaries but also to the local farmers. 3 years into the implementation of this project CSA model farm has seen the harvesting of organically grown garden eggs which has been supplied to the local markets.
Much as we celebrate the progress of this project there are still elements of CSA techniques that needs to be incorporated in the model and one key consideration at this point is the adoption of a solar powered irrigation facility that would allow for production throughout the year. The Adiembra community where this project is being implemented has a water body that can be harnessed for off season food production.
On this note we would like to thank our partners the Adlerfields Ghana limited and to also invite Development Partner sand stakeholders interested in investing in youth especially rural youth to reach out to us with their support and for partnership.
